Renowned for its fine golden sand and mesmerizing cerulean waters, Koukounaries is the most popular beach in Skiathos and one of the very best beaches in Greece.
Its distinctive charm lies in the fragrant pine tree forest that surrounds the shore, creating a unique synthesis of emerald, golden, and bright blue hues. Thus, it is little wonder why its fame has traveled beyond the borders of the country, and Koukounaries has often featured among the most beautiful beaches in the entire world!

Since the beach is well-organized, it offers many amenities, such as umbrellas and sunbeds, but there is still some room for visitors to lay down their own equipment. Moreover, it lends itself to a wide range of water sports, as there is a scuba diving center and facilities for such thrilling activities as jet skiing and windsurfing.

The area around Koukounaries is one of the very few places besides Skiathos Town to be inhabited and offers plenty of facilities including beach bars, taverns, rental rooms and large hotel complexes. A local bus links the beach to the capital every 30 minutes, but you can also get there via one of the water taxis departing from Skiathos Port.

Before leaving Koukounaries, donโ€™t miss out on strolling through the thick pine tree forest and discovering the hidden gem that lies right behind the forest: a biotope of stunning natural beauty, known as the Strofilia Lagoon. Covering an overall surface of 68 acres, it is home to a number of animal species, many of which are migratory. Along the banks of the lagoon, you will have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to meet such bird species as white and black swans, herons, cormorants, moorhens and, with a little luck, even rare flamingos!
